How can I grow Peonies from seed?
I have a wonderful shrub Peonie I love to be able to unite and grow the seeds of another. I'm just not sure how. "The seeds should be dried? Pods are left after the flowers die in reality the seeds? I know you can be easier to divide the plant, but I refuse to do so because they want to lose this plant. The flowers are the size of a grapefruit super big and the color of red velvet! Thanks for any help!
Double peony seeds are dormant and require cold stratification. Some peonies produce red and black seeds in the sheath of the seed itself. Discard the seeds red and use only the black seeds are the only ones how are you fertile seed. Place seeds in a pot of this fall and leave to cool outdoor seeds. Or place the seeds in a zip-lock bag "with a little sand and slightly moisten the sand. Place the bag of seeds in the refrigerator for at least 90 days, then plant. During the first summer growth, seeds only develop roots. A second period of cold (another of winter) is required before vegetative growth will appear in the second season. So do not expect to see the plant the first year after planting the seeds. The alternative is to sow the seeds in a pot with bottom heat at 65 to 75 degrees F for 3 months. Then refrigerate the pot to 41 degrees F for another 3 months. Now, the plant should be ready to generate new shoots. Remember that peonies like to be transplanted in the fall, thus growing in pots until the time for transplant.
